Soul Deep

There’s a new Breed Law coming up for vote by the Senate, a very important vote that could mean the difference between autonomy for the Breeds or potential destruction of the many Feline, Wolf, and Coyote Breeds that escaped destruction in the past. Central to the Breed Law question is the daughter of President Marion, Amanda Marion, who has never concerned herself with Breed Law in the past. When she is attacked in her home and almost kidnapped, suddenly, Breed Law becomes much more important, especially when she meets Kiowa, her true mate.

After Kiowa saves Amanda from her attackers, her life changes. One shared kiss is all it takes for them to become mates. Soon Amanda’s hunger and lust becomes so strong she can’t take it anymore. It is either mate with Kiowa or lose her mind. On a mad dash to safety, Kiowa has to take the time to fulfill not only Amanda’s needs but also the needs she has evoked in him with their one shared kiss. Unfortunately, though they mate often and energetically, Amanda isn’t sure if she is so attracted to Kiowa because of a hormone or because she has fallen in love with him. She wants to take the time to get to know him, but all he can do is protect her from any future attacks. Kiowa has been ignored or hurt by everyone he has become close to in the past. He wants Amanda to want him for himself, but he fears she’ll never love him because of his coyote side.

This book moved me in so many different ways. Kiowa was a man without a home or anyone to even care about him. When he meets Amanda, he feels a kinship with her he’s never felt before, but the inadequacies drilled into him by an uncaring grandfather have left him reluctant to trust his heart to anyone’s care. This book touched on so many different issues that it would be hard for me to talk about them all, but suffice it to say that Lora Leigh’s combination of genetic engineering and romance was a direct hit with me. It doesn’t sound too sexy, but the ideas she raised, the characters she created, and the love story between Amanda and Kiowa kept me enthralled until the very end. Amanda had to learn to rethink her ideas about Breeds, but she proved to be a big help with her willingness to learn and be experimented on. The love scenes are extremely erotic and contain not only anal sex but also some slightly BDSM tones, all which add to the thrilling connection between Amanda and Kiowa. Soul Deep, Book 1 in the Coyote Breeds series is one story you won’t be able to put down and it just proves to me again and again why Lora Leigh is quickly becoming one of my favorite paranormal writers.
