Playing with Fire
Playing with Fire offers readers a contemporary romance that has the look and feel of real life.
Lindsay has worked hard to earn her place as one of the few women firefighters in the city of Glendale. She is driven to excel and is counting on the results of the latest engineer tests to deliver a coveted promotion. However she is not the only firefighter working towards this goal. She is up against perhaps the sexiest man she knows, Matt Callahan. They have known each other since their academy days and there is no question he is a professional. She just wishes he wasn’t quite so tempting. When a misunderstanding fuels the attraction between them, Lindsay and Matt are confronted with an unrivaled passion that has them Playing with Fire both personally and professionally.
This story surprised me by how easily the author drew me into the lives of Lindsay and Matt. They are both very dynamic, robust characters that are a joy to read. The romance that develops between them is balanced by the friendship and working relationship they have already created. The lead-up to their first encounter is interspersed with humor, doubts, and eventually a consuming passion that is envious. This is a couple that is truly made for each other. The supporting characters are just as essential and had me gritting my teeth and laughing in turns. Ms. McDavid moves the story along in such a way that readers won’t even notice the number of pages turned because they are so involved in the story. Cathy McDavid is new to this reader, but her storytelling abilities will definitely have me looking for more of her work.
