Halloween Bash: The Thing in the Basement

It all began with the The Thing in the Basement. Alan Drury is having a bad life. He is married to a beautiful but selfish woman named Anne. The love they shared has slowly rotted away. They are massively in debt. His career is on the shaky side. Then Anne comes up with the bright idea to buy this fine, old Victorian home. A home in which the basement is literally falling apart, along with the rest of the place. A contractor comes to the conclusion that there is a hidden room behind a thin layer of bricks in the basement. With a price quoted at around $45,000 to repair, Alan decides to take care of this himself.

Big mistake. For behind those bricks lays a force of evil so intense, no man or woman is safe from it. The Thing in the Basement somehow begins to awaken a very dark side of Alan's sexuality. Blood, Pain and Death become almost a mantra to him. He does not understand what is happening to him. This change, will draw four people into his web of horror, Anne, Samantha, Bob and Linda. All of their fates will become entwined in the hunger for pain and pleasure. There are no limits to the sexual games or deceit for them. If only they realized how much power that thing truly has. All five would have run and never stopped.

The Thing in the Basement sent shivers down my spine. It shows the evil that people can do when they are slaves to sexual desire. Each of the five have their own weaknesses and strengths. Even toward the end, I could still feel the humanity in them. This book starts out with flames of fire and then begins to spiral completely out of control. I mean this in a very good way. I had no idea how far Jonathan Wright would go with this dark tale. He does not disappoint. The ending is NOT predictable and will have a special place in the hearts of those that love horror and erotica.
