In His Dreams
Rafe Osmond is a tax accountant by day and a Dream Walker by night. He has been trained to protect dreamers from themselves, as well as from dream ragers. Dream ragers are the worst, because they can literally kill humans in their sleep. On one of his first solo dream walks, he encounters the beautiful but deadly Nara. Against his better judgment, he becomes involved in a dream ménage a trois with her and witnesses the death of the other man. Consumed by his own lust, Rafe could not prevent the other man’s death, for which guilt overwhelms him. For the next fifteen years, he makes it his personal mission to find Nara and destroy her.
Nara is head immortal concubine for Conqueror, a brutal immortal man who has imprisoned her in the Forgotten Palace for three hundred years. Since she was fifteen years of age, she has been a prisoner of his lifestyle. Her job is to enslave men with her sexuality and trap them in the Forgotten Palace. It is in the Forgotten Palace that Conqueror will take delight in torturing and humiliating the men. Nara is forced to do his bidding, with no real will of her own. But she has found a small loophole. Through dreams, she can steal away into the men's erotic dreams. For the first time, she can feel real emotions. It does not matter to her if they are pain or pleasure, since both emotions blur together for her. She does not mean to become a dream rager; it is just her nature from the Conqueror's training. Even the Conqueror does not know that she can enter dreams. In fact, if he knew this, he would end these brief moments of pleasure for her. This changes when she comes across Rafe. He is a bit of a mystery to her, but Nara knows when he catches up with her he will kill her. If only she would be so lucky.
Together Rafe and Nara finally meet up again in the Forgotten Palace. Nara knows only destruction and pain will await him, but Rafe is much more powerful then Nara realizes. Love was the only emotion that neither expected to feel for one another. Love has no way to survive in this temple of hell. Their only chance for any kind of happiness is to murder the Conqueror. How does one kill an immortal? Is it possible? What will be the consequence, considering Nara is tied to him? The count down has begun, and the answers are nowhere to be found.
I found myself on the edge of chair while reading this. The dream world is much more complex then we dared imagine. I admired Rafe for wanting to save humans in their dreams. He is a very strong willed based character. Nara is such a sad immortal; it almost tears your heart apart. Her master, Conqueror, is a very sadistic, sick individual. I would imagine death would be better, than having to serve him. During all these trials, Rafe and Nara still manage to have some spicy, intimate interludes. My final comment is this, read it now! This story will have you really wondering about dreams.
