Jack of Hearts

Lars has been lonely without his lover Lila for these last 200 years. Lars believes that Lila may have chose this lifetime to come back to him. Lila was murdered by the Creator because she tried to stop him from changing Lars into a vampire. Lars has been haunted by the memories of her death and the cherished love they shared long ago. He visits with a powerful psychic, to have his tarot cards read and to see if Lila has been reincarnated. He is overjoyed to find out that indeed Lila is alive. One glance at the psychic, and Lars can tell that something is wrong. When the truth comes out about Lila, Lars is torn between finding her or waiting until she is reincarnated again in another life time, for Lila is not as she once was. Lars searches his heart for an answer. Does he truly love the beauty of Lila's soul, or will her physical changes in this life be an obstacle?

I applaud Leigh Ellwood for writing a short story that made this reader stop and think after reading the last paragraph. Are we destined to love the soul of the person to the point where appearances are not important? Or is our love fickle to the point where we can be side tracked by someone's race, creed or sexual preference? The only negative flaw in the book is that it should really have been longer. I would have enjoyed learning more about Lars and his beloved.
