Heavenly Surrender

Gabriele is the only female demon hunter, reborn after hundreds of years to protect Ayden, son of Asurul, a former demon General, and Isa, an Archangel. While fighting the demon Kali, Gabriele and the other demon hunters, Saban and Ryo, run across a group of human soldiers with whom Kali has been “playing.” The only survivor of the group is Ryker, and Gabriele feels a strong bond with the man almost immediately. However, because of her past experiences with men, she does not trust her feelings now. At the same time, there is trouble both in Heaven and in Hell, as Archangel murders Archangel, and the demons of Hell seek to capture Ayden.

This is the second of Roux’s Demon Hunter series, the first being Keeper of My Soul. Heavenly Surrender is a very complex story. There are at least two separate storylines in addition to the main one, and hints and bits of at least three more scattered throughout the novel. The plot is very action oriented, and, in my opinion, a bit disjointed. At some scene changes, it’s a little difficult to catch on to where the characters are and what is going on. On the other hand, the story moves very fast and keeps the reader’s attention throughout. The character development is somewhat superficial, although I did come to like the characters of Gabriele and Ryker as they strove to overcome the obstacles before them. There are many sex scenes throughout the story, all quite graphic, but they did not overpower the main plot action. I enjoyed this book as a light read, and expect that we will soon read more of the exploits of Roux’s demon hunters.
