Legend of the Beesinger

Due to the curse of a wronged warlock, Gerrick of Blakely faces the possible loss of his life as well as the lives of his people. Armed with the possibility that the Beesinger can save his people, he sets off to find her. When he lands on the island he is faced with a labyrinth and an eerie song. Gerrick follows the song to the center and finds a gorgeous woman lying on the stone floor.

Ambrosia is fulfilling her family’s debt to the goddess Oriana by acting as her Beesinger. As the Beesinger, she has the ability to create the famous healing elixir that is sought after by sick people everywhere. The life of the Beesinger is a solitary one, with only sporadic visits by petitioners or the goddess herself. When she opens her eyes after a difficult brewing and sees Gerrick, she feels a stirring that she has never felt before.

This was a great story, with its cast of fascinating supporting characters. I did feel that the relationship between Ambrosia and Gerrick was a touch too sweet, but that just shows you the kind of books I read on a regular basis. The plot was very imaginative and the dialogue flowed very well. I enjoyed the idea of a magic healing elixir being created through pain. It makes sense in a give and take kind of way. Valonia was a very intriguing character, and I would like to hear the rest of her story. I hope that Ms. Dane will tell it. This was a nice story to while away the evening with.
