Evermore
Emily’s life has been turned upside down. She has buried her father, broken up with her long time boyfriend and become engaged to Nathan March, all at the tender age of eighteen. Emily marries Nathan on her nineteenth birthday in a small cold church with a few of her family and friends in attendance. She is excited and hopeful about moving on with her life in a new town and thinks of it as a new beginning with her husband.
Emily arrives at her new home, Evermore, but is unprepared for the large house, tobacco plantation and slaves. The first night after supper, she witnesses her husband shooting a man in his fields and discovers he has lied to her from the beginning. Before retiring for bed, Melly, the house slave tells Emily that the house is cursed and haunted. Emily does not believe in ghosts but soon discovers that Melly is telling the truth. She also discovers that there was no way to leave Evermore.
Evermore is a truly terrifying tale of lies, murder, and pure evil. I found this book to be exciting, mysterious, and chilling with its original story line and highly detailed characters. It leads you through Emily’s struggles, sorrow, and unhappiness in a way that makes you feel her every emotion. Gregg Rosenquist takes you on a roller-coaster ride so that you never know what will be around the next corner and cannot help staying on until the ride is over. I give Evermore 4 Angels and would highly recommend reading this scary story with the lights on.
