The Prey

Take care and beware - the danger is everywhere!

Former FBI agent Rowan Smith is now a mystery-murder writer; she's found out that all of her books are being acted out. Murder after murder is happening! It is so bad that her agent hires a private detective to protect her. Mike Flynn, the PI who takes the case, has a problem of falling in love with helpless women. His first impressions of Rowan put her squarely in the 'helpless' category. The murderer is stalking Rowan, but who will he kill next?

John, Mike’s brother and ex-DEA agent, comes back from a freelance assignment and is ready to help protect Rowan. Mike sees the attraction spring up between John and Rowan and becomes extremely jealous.

Is Rowan’s past coming back to haunt her? As a child she thought she saw her father kill her mother, but did he? Her oldest brother, Bobby had a really bad mean streak in him and killed her sisters at the same time her father supposedly killed her mother. However, to the best of her knowledge, Bobby is dead; her sole surviving brother Peter is a priest in Boston. She was adopted by the FBI agent who later became her boss. When someone close to the investigation is killed, can John get past the guilt and admit his feelings for Rowan? Who is this murderer who is now after Rowan?

Put down all the rest, The Prey is the best! I have never read a book before by Allison Brennan but after reading this one, I know anything with her name on it is a must-read, must-have for my keeper shelf. Suspense, intrigue, and lovingly sensual moments make this a definite winner. The Prey by Allison Brennan is not a book you can put down once you pick it up so beware, if you dare to pick it up for a look, you’ll read the whole book.

Allison Brennan's style reminds me a lot of JD Robb; she writes a great suspense novel with romance swirled into the mix. This is a suspenseful and addictive tale so well-written that I couldn’t put it down, even if my life depended on it. I was glued to the edge of my seat as I scoured page after page. Fraught with danger, excitement and cliff-hanging action, this tale is, in a word, riveting! Everything comes together to make these characters so real that you can nearly reach out and touch them. Time is short as they race against the clock to save Rowan, and you feel the tension in each agonizing moment as death reaches out to claim another victim.

The Prey is the first book in a new trilogy about three women who meet in the FBI training academy. The Hunt will be coming out next, followed by The Kill. I'll be lined up to be the first to get them! I can see Allison Brennan becoming as big as some of the other major suspense writers out there with her talent to grasp situations and spin realistic fiction out of them. Not only are the characters so well portrayed that you feel as if you have known them forever, but the story excites and tempts you finish it in one big helping. The Prey is addictive and so well-depicted that you will read it over again just to make sure you have not missed a single word or emotion.
