Bewitching the Bachelor
A curse that spans three hundred years and countless lives has intertwined the Honeywell and Halestrom families ever since Liam Halestrom betrayed his lover, Celia Honeywell. Fate brings Bianca Honeywell and Liam’s descendent, Luke Hale together; can they break the curse Celia placed before it is too late?
Bianca has lived with her ancestor’s curse her entire life. She has used her magic to try and break the curse, to free the women in her family from the loneliness and subsequent distrust the curse has wrought in their lives. To date though, she has failed. When Luke arrives in town, his intent is to disprove the curse and the existence of magic. However, Cabot Halestrom has arrived in town and his intent is to also end the curse, only he intends to end it by killing Bianca. As Bianca and Luke work against time, they find that even with magic, things are not always what they seem. Can they find the key to breaking the curse that hangs over their heads and their hearts?
Suzanne Marie Calvin’s Bewitching the Bachelor is an enjoyable blend of romance, humor, and intrigue. Her characters are a pleasure to read. Bianca is an especially enjoyable character. She has a quick wit, and a loving heart. Her gifts are truly “magic”. The author has described them in such detail, that it is easy to believe in her abilities. There is just the right combination of poetry and power within her, that the scenes where she displays her skill are a true joy. The interaction between Luke and Bianca runs the gamut. There are moments when Luke’s disbelief and sarcasm will have readers wanting to hit him as much as Bianca does. Yet, when he finds his heart is within Bianca’s arms, readers will be touched at the lengths he will take to get there. The road for these two is not easy. The author has done an excellent job showing the progression of their relationship. However, if the love brewing between Luke and Bianca is not enough for readers, then the secondary characters will be sure to entertain. Ms. Calvin has created a community that is rich with individuals that contribute whimsy and mayhem into Bianca and Luke’s relationship. The antagonist in the story is a catalyst for the greatest part of this work. The ending will delight readers. If you are looking for a romantic tale with a spattering of magic, this is definitely a story worth picking up.
