The Tower can mean many things, from exhilarating change and transformation to imprisonment and violent, sudden change. In Tower of Loneliness - Tarot: The Tower, Carys Weldon introduces us to The Tower card and how it will play a pivotal role in Marsy Garcia’s life. Marsy is reading cards at a university fair and for a while she enjoys her role of Gypsy Ginny. Most people think her readings are phony, but Marsy knows differently. She has gypsy blood running through her veins, and when she chooses, some of the fortunes foretold are real. When The Tower appears in her cards, is Marsy prepared for the changes it will bring? What should she to do when the cards link her to a man, Theo Veloz, and a future that is filled with uncertainty? Especially when her heart is drawn to another man, her best friend Josh. One night and Marsy’s life is turned upside down by her encounter with these two men. As the cards are shuffled and dealt, will any of them be the same once Gypsy Ginny reads their fortunes?

Tower of Loneliness -Tarot: The Tower starts of with bits of humor and entertaining interaction between the characters. Marsy’s actions in the beginning create some unique situations for Josh. I couldn’t help but laugh as she left him nonplussed with her trips to the bathroom. However, the levity of the storyline takes a back seat as the first scene between Marsy and Theo brings forth a desire that neither character can explain. The transition of emotion is well done and allows the reader to feel the building drama. When Marsy confronts Josh with what she has done, readers will feel their pain and the lingering emotion they still have towards one another. Carys Weldon has done an admirable job building on a simple twist of chance and turning it into an event that sets Marsy’s life on a new course. As she makes her way in the world, and eventually back to Theo and Josh, readers can’t help but stay caught up in her emotions waiting to see where The Tower card leads her.
