Debbie Cavanaugh’s debut mystery, Where There’s a Will is a delight! Her private investigator, Gayle Ferguson, will have you laughing out loud as she takes on a case that is supposed to be cut and dried, but soon finds herself embroiled in a mystery that turns one small town upside down.

Gayle Ferguson is a part-time investigator, with part-time being the operative word. When her employers offered to fund her P.I. endeavor, she thought it would be a great way to inject some excitement into her life. She may have gotten more than she bargained for when her latest case takes on a life of its own. A simple request from her boss to look into the death of Caroline Quinton was supposed to be a straightforward confirmation of what the police already knew. However, a chance encounter with Caroline’s daughter and a new will showing up fosters enough suspicion that Gayle, with the help of her would-be-P.I. mother, dig a little deeper and unearth murder and mayhem in a small East Texas town. Can this would-be investigator put all the clues together before she becomes the next target?

Debbie Cavanaugh has done an excellent job creating a work that balances humor with the ever-present tension of a good mystery. Where There’s a Will is an entertaining and fun mystery adventure. What starts off as a simple investigation turns into a plot with enough twists and turns to keep you guessing who the real mastermind is. Ms. Cavanaugh has enriched the story with her variety of characters and subplots. This little Texas town is home to some very unique and enjoyable characters that really bring the town and subsequently the story to life. Gayle must not only contend with the Quinton case, she must also deal with a neurotic ex-husband, three teenage children, a mother that is determined to be the next Angela Lansbury, and a potential conspiracy on the football team. She does it all, while still maintaining her self-deprecating sense of humor. It’s no wonder that this lady doesn’t have time to keep her laundry caught up. If you are looking for a good mystery, that will keep you smiling at the heroine’s antics and honest portrayal, Where There’s a Will is not to be missed!
