First Rider Kerrec knows Valeria is a girl, nonetheless he protects her secret. He recognizes her Call, nevertheless he behaves toward her more severely than the other candidates. Caitlin Brennan cleverly weaves the story of a man who perceives the white gods choice, however he wrestles with trusting and believing in Valeria’s Call.

Euan Rohn, a captured barbarian prince, is Valeria’s secret lover and only friend. The white gods appear to trust him; on the other hand, Valeria is aware of his aspiration to crush the Empire and the white gods. Caitlin Brennan adroitly renders the clash amongst Euan’s ambition and his obsession and ardor for Valeria.

The future and fate of the Empire and the Riders will be determined by Valeria’s choice. Will she answer The Mountain’s Call or will she let her anger and bitterness demolish all that she loves? The white gods have called and chosen her, despite the Riders rejection.

Caitlin Brennan’s, The Mountain’s Call, captured me from the first page. She eloquently and crisply tales a saga of one women’s courage and strength to challenge tradition and follow her heart in spite of the reality that the Riders have cast her away. I eagerly await the sequel.
