Diamonds Aren't Forever

In Diamonds Aren't Forever Betty Sullivan La Pierre brings back two unforgettable characters from her book Dirty Diamonds. Con artist Jamey Schyler may have gotten away last time, but will she be as lucky the second time she faces Hawkman?

After a successful diamond heist, Jamey and Bob are now living in Rio de Janeiro. However when she finds out she didn't change the title of her aunt's house into her name and the tenet wants to buy it, she knows she has to go back to Oregon. Not only is Carl Hopkins, the man Jamey set up to take the fall for the heist due to be released from prison around the time she will be there, but Private Investigator Hawkman is also still in Oregon. She uses a disguise to go back, hoping she won't be recognized. She sees Hawkman at the airport and panics, so instead of taking her time and doing the paperwork right, she botches it and signs the wrong name at the title company and will have to return once again. With Carl back in town now, things are heating up for Jamie.

Hawkman finds out Jamey has been in Medford, but left before he could confront her. Now he's learned that she has to come back and that Carl is in town waiting for her to show back up. He's got his contacts on the alert to let him know when she flies in. Hawkman knows Jamey is a con artist and he wants to talk to her, but he doesn't want Carl to get a hold of her. Hawkman tries to keep tabs on both of them, but they keep slipping by him. After the way everything is going, Hawkman thinks he knows what happened, but does he really?

Ms. LaPierre has written a story that reminds me of the Mickey Spillane stories. Hawkman, as the private detective, has his hands full. The author has a P.I. that you want to keep hearing about and how he solves them. If you like detectives and mysteries, this is the author for you. This is a return of Jamey from her previous book Dirty Diamonds where she eluded Hawkman. Even though this is part of a series it can stand alone. You don't have to read the others, but after reading this one you'll want to, I know I went and got them. I'm glad that Ms. LaPierre has continued her character Hawkman, he's not only likable but lovable. Her characters are a joy to read about and the interaction between them is very believable. The other books in the series are: The Enemy Stalks, Double Trouble, The Silent Scream, Dirty Diamonds and Blackout. 4 Angels
