While prosecuting Jameson for the murder of his wife, Sidney hopes that her star witness Harley, the ten-year-old daughter of Jameson's girlfriend will be able to go through the identity hearing set up by his attorney. Watching the prisoners being brought into the courtroom Sidney can see Jameson lift his hands and knock her down and the lights go out in the courtroom. Feeling someone on top of her, she starts to struggle, only to find out it is Detective Cole Vladik trying to help her. Jameson has escaped during the ensuing black-out, Cole and Sidney give chase, but lose him. With the threats against her and her house being burglarized her boss has Cole keep an eye on her. The pharmaceutical company that Jameson's wife owned had been shut down and being investigatedfor FDA violations, Cole and Sidney find some interesting developmentsafter talking to Devlin the director. Did Jameson really kill his wife or was he being framed, and what did his girlfriend Jetta have to do with all of it?

Cole knew he had to follow D.A. Drummond's order of having Sidney be the bait to finding Jameson, but he didn't have to like it. Trying to keep her safe and out in the open without her knowing she was bait, was getting harder by the day. She is not only getting the notes and the black roses left to her, she's also getting phone calls and someone is following her. He knows that he shouldn't get involved with her with his background, but he can't help wanting her and wanting to protect her. When Jameson is found murdered, they have to start back at square one to find who is behind the murders and the threats.

The use of black widow spiders and tarantula hawk wasp in the story just added to the realism to this thriller.
