The Darkest Hour

Brooke is torn between two men, Armand the dark one, a vampire, and Caleb the light one, a friend since childhood. Armand called to something within her, she felt they'd known each other before in another life time. He was compelling, controlling and on a deeper level, she had a sense of something more. She feels excited when he comes to her at night, as if he is the only one who can fulfill her. Then he asks her to take the last step with him into the night.

Caleb knew he was going to have to fight for Brooke against Armand. To show her that he was her true soul mate and that he needed her more than Armand ever could or would. He tells her that Armand is only using her to get her mansion and money, then he shows her the article about her father dying. Hoping that she will finally see what he's been trying to tell her all along. Will she take pick Caleb or will Armand be able to convince her to take that final step and go with him into the darkness of night for all eternity?

Ms. Mauro has written not of the romantic vampire hero that we are used to, but one that is his opposite and that we can still like. He's not a villain either, even when he does evil there is still that quality that it’s only for survival. The battle that she fights herself about between these two men that she loves is the crux of the story. The author has given us a glimpse of the turmoil that Brooke has to go through to make a decision. I'll be looking forward to reading the next book in the series "The Darkest Secret: Part Two." 4 Angels
