Twilight Kisses
Shannon, a reporter for the Chicago Weekly, is doing research on out of the way vacation spots, when she comes across a photo of an Indian who was hung for kidnapping a white woman. His eyes bored into her and struck a nerve deep inside drawing her to him. After weeks of dreaming, wanting and researching more about him, she decides she has to go to South Dakota, where he was from and where she feels she'll learn more. She talks her boss, Jay, into giving her two weeks to go do more research about the other Indians she had read about. In the two weeks she'd been there, she hasn't found out anything about Moon Runner, she has just twenty-four more hours before she has to go back to Chicago. An elderly Indian woman knocks on her door, gives her a key and mentions Moon Runner, then leaves, giving Shannon more questions than answers. Out at the river, where she has found solitude, she decides to go swimming, only to get severe cramping in her legs and goes under. A hand reaches for her and she grabs it, he pulls her out and when she sees him, she faints.
Moon Runner had seen her when he'd been on his vision quest and waited for her just as she'd asked him to. When he pulls her out of the river, he knows his Ghost Woman has finally come to him. He knows she's afraid, he can see it in her eyes, but their love will bind them together for all eternity. But he can feel dread flowing through his veins and cannot dislodge it. The cavalry has captured them to take them to Pine Ridge and hang Moon Runner for kidnapping Shannon, as she tells them he is her husband and she was with him of her own free will, they don't believe her. He tells her to go back to the river and trust that she will get back to her own time, but she doesn't want to leave him.
The love between these two literally jump out of the pages. You can feel the heat they generate and you hold your breath as they come together each and every time. This story enthralls you from beginning to end. You grit your teeth at the soldiers and want to knock them over their heads for not being compassionate to Moon Runner and Shannon. Their road is one that is hard, but filled with love and surprises. Ms. Storm has written a story that will stay with you even after you read The End. She brings her characters to life. Thank you for sharing your story and making them believable, lovable, and honorable.
