Magic For Joy

Magic For Joy is the second book in Holly Furhmann’s fairy godmother series, following Mad About Max. Fern, Myrtle and Blossom return and this time their goddaughter is Joy Aaronson, Max Aaronson’s sister.

Whilst preparing for a fund-raising party, Joy Aaronson is startled to suddenly find three fairy godmothers in her room. Joy has read Grace’s books so she is familiar with the characters Fern, Myrtle and Blossom, but she still can’t quite believe her eyes; can’t believe that they are real and that they are here to help her find her Mr. Right.

Sophie St. John is just six years old. She’s miserable living with her mother in a house full of servants. When Joy and Sophie meet, Joy recognises a kindred spirit. She also recognises that Sophie’s too serious for a six-year-old, and the pair arrange to go fishing the following morning. Following their fishing expedition, Sophie’s mother announces to Joy that she is eloping and that Sophie cannot go with her; as she is entirely too busy to deliver Sophie to her father, she asks Joy to take her to him.

Gabriel St. John is shocked when he arrives home to find his daughter and a strange woman in his driveway. He is thrilled to have Sophie home again. Joy and Sophie have become very attached to each other, so Joy agrees to stay for a few days, until Gabriel can arrange for someone to look after Sophie whilst he is at work. Sophie and the fairy godmothers are determined to keep Joy around permanently. Sophie’s stolen a piece of Joy’s heart, but what about Gabriel? What effect has he had on Joy’s heart?

A more emotional and intense tale than Mad About Max, Holly Fuhrmann’s Magic For Joy again features the three fairy godmothers Fern, Myrtle and Blossom. Joy and Gabriel love Sophie and want what is best for her. Each clearly demonstrates their love for her, yet they struggle with their feelings for each other. There are humorous episodes, but the focus of the story is on the developing relationships between Sophie, Joy and Gabriel. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and can’t wait to continue this series with Miracles For Nick and Fairly Human. 4 angels.
