Brook Meylan, otherwise known as Lady A’Court, left London after the death of her husband. She escaped the ton and all the rumors after his scandalous act done to one of her closest friends. Although the change of scenery helps her escape the gossip, nothing could help her escape the cruelty her late husband inflicted upon her. Enjoying the peace of the country, Brook’s world is turned upside down by the visit of her family and a certain rake.

Mallory Claeg has never been one to be conventional. He is known for his exploits with widows and with woman in general. After all he did marry his mistress, which the ton along with his family was appalled at. Dealing with his wife’s death, he has escaped the pain by painting and having his fair share of new mistresses. Seeing Brook standing on a cliff near the open water, changes Mallory’s life forever. He is no longer satisfied with his newest conquest and wants nothing more than to experience the beauty and seduction of Lady A’Court.

The tragedy done to her by her late husband leaves Brook not wanting the affections of another man, but Mallory is determined she will desire him. The transformation Brook is about to experience will change her forever. Can Brook do what her family asks and face the ton and their horrible judgment of her all the while fending off the insufferable rogue Mallory?

Looking for a good read with a true to your heart story line? Courting the Countess is just that book. The tragedy that Brook felt at the hands of her belated husband becomes very real to the reader. Barbara Pierce does a splendid job of bringing the pain of both Brook and Mallory out. Her words will have you wanting to hit the people who have spurned both characters. Brook is a true heroine in this book. By facing her past and the demons of the ton, she will learn that life itself is not cruel like the late Lord A’Court made her believe.

Courting the Countess is a book filled with emotions. Readers will find themselves cheering for Brook and her plight with Mallory and her family. Not all characters in this book are nice however. Brook’s mother-in-law is very determined to make her pay for her son’s death. She makes it clear to all who are around that Brook was never good enough for her son.

Barbara Pierce does an outstanding job of bringing all sorts of characters, good and evil, together to make one remarkable, heartfelt story. This book is a keeper and not one that fans of Regency Romance will want to miss. Courting the Countess unquestionably deserves its Recommended Read status!!
