Those Hills
Those Hills takes us into the world of Tamara, her anal retentive fiancé Jason and a mystery man from a small hick town in Pennsylvania. On the way back from what should have been a routine road trip, Tamara is persuaded by her driving partner to stop off and see his not so sophisticated relatives.
After a rather comedic trip to an outhouse, Tamara is rescued by a knight in slightly tarnished armor. At least to her way of thinking…But he’s so sexy…so gentle and tender in his care of her that she gives in to his manipulations and has some of the best sex she’s ever had in her life.
But the sexy, unsophisticated and slightly tarnished hick isn’t really what he seems…which Tamara soon finds out. Racked with guilt over the one night stand, Tamara readily agrees when her fiancé promises her a romantic weekend out of the city.
Held up by a meeting back in the city, he’s is unaware that the woman he calls a “work in progress” isn’t thinking about a weekend away with him…but is still stuck somewhere in “Those Hills” of Pennsylvania and the dark, heated, sexy arms of her Knight.
Rian does a wonderful job with her first published work. Her characters are real and easily related too but at the same time sexy. This story had some fun, comic relief interspersed with angst, drama and some hot moments between the sheets.
Connor is torn between revealing his true nature against Tamara’s misconception of him once they are reunited. Jason, who is oblivious to Tamara’s brief affair, is the happy go lucky, if a bit anal, antagonist to the story. Tamara is definitely a work in progress and while she tries to always do the right thing, there are times when she realizes she must listen to her heart…instead of her head.
Ms. Monaire’s ability to pen a hot, fun and sexy tale is impressive for a first work. She fleshes out her characters enough to make the story an enjoyable read. At the same time, however, I would suggest that she give a bit more thought to expanding the characters as the story progresses. I enjoyed this work on the overall though and look forward to great things from Ms. Monaire in the future.
