Lily and the Gambler

Lily Albright is traveling to Grass Valley, California, to join her Uncle Arthur, the only family she has left. Her beau died during a duel and she has taken his last name, pretending she is a widow in order to travel to California as safely as possible. During the long boat ride, she meets fellow traveler Creighton “King” Callaway and the attraction is instant. He’s a lot different from Nigel, much more wild and untamed. Lily has never felt so attracted to another man, and when she finds out that King wants her just as badly, she hopes to start a small affair aboard the boat.

They make love and it is everything and more that Lily could have hoped to find with another man. King wants to get to know Lily even better, but when he finds out her true purpose in moving to California, he is livid. She is a traveling bride! Her Uncle Arthur has arranged a marriage for her in Grass Valley, but little does Lily know that King is traveling to Grass Valley too.

What will happen when Lily discovers King in Grass Valley? Will she follow her heart or will she follow her Uncle’s hopes? Be sure to read Lily and the Gambler to find out.

This was a sweet romance. Though short, the story was well thought out and Lyndi Lamont did a good job of creating her characters. Lily and King were a really good match, as King brought out the wicked side in Lily, while Lily brought out the sweet and romantic side in King. I like the “western” setting, when California was still considered part of the “Wild West.” This is a quick read but it’s a lot of fun and very romantic.
