Backstage Affair

Genera McCanton is excited to have her play opening off-Broadway; this is her chance at the big time. There is one problem though, Edward Aldin. Edward is one of the actors in her play. While he is a wonderful actor, Genera does not like the way he got the role. Edward's sister, Judith, is producing the play and pretty much handed him the role. Being fiercely attracted to Edward is also a problem. Even though she does not particularly like him, she cannot help but want to jump his bones, Edward is sex walking. When he starts making suggestions about the play, Genera is reminded of another man who made suggestions about her play and then stole it from her. After reading his comments, Genera has to grudgingly accept that they will make the play better. When Genera is injured, Edward steps in to take care of her, their mutual lust takes over. Misunderstandings and miscommunication soon raise their ugly heads, creating new problems for the pair.

Edward Algin is trying to rebuild his life after 9/11, when his fiancé died in the Towers, he thought his life was over. Taking a role in Genera McCanton's play is his chance. The strained relationship between the two does not keep erotic thoughts of her from tormenting him. Edward is able to see that beneath Genera's hard shell is a woman who has been badly hurt. Each time he offers suggestions about the play, her animosity returns. She does not seem to realize that he only wants to help. Edward can sense Genera's attraction. While taking care of her, he is forced to face his growing feeling and the knowledge that his sister will do everything she can to disrupt their budding relationship.

Erica DeQuaya's Backstage Affair is the heart wrenching story of two emotionally scarred people. Edward and Genera have both been hurt before and are unwilling to let love into their lives again. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The intense emotions will blow you away. The sexual chemistry between the pair is powerful. Their initial connection is one of lust and animosity which turns to love as they open up to one another. You can see how Edward and Genera's past relationships have warped their outlook on love. Love overcomes in the end, showing how sometimes the road to love is very rocky.
