Silk And Steel
Lady Kathryn has been horribly wronged. Her brutish uncle wants her inheritance and the easiest way to her riches is to spirit her away to the asylum, telling untruths about her. Because he has had her locked away, no one believes the validity of her word. Not that in the time period women were granted much credence anyhow, but being in an insane asylum insures that her words fall on deaf ears. Lady Kathryn has one hope and one hope alone, to steal away in the Marquess of Litchfield’s carriage. She’s not crazy, but even Kathryn knows the more she tries to plead her case to the handsome, stoic Lucien Montaine, the more insane she sounds.
Lucien has no idea what to think of the stowaway. Her actions are that of a queen, proud and honorable, with the countenance of that of a noble, but she is filthy and ragged, nearly starved. If she is who she claims, he can only imagine the atrocities she was forced to suffer in order to survive. Does he trust her and help her, trapping himself or will the trap actually be his salvation?
This is an engrossing sensual delight, where Ms. Martin once again captures the reader’s attention and refuses to let go. She effortlessly makes you fall in love and care about her characters with a vicious fervor. We, the readers, know without a doubt that we would literally walk to the ends of the earth to protect the characters Ms. Martin creates and those of Silk and Steel are no different. If you are new to Ms. Martin’s work, you will not be disappointed, if you are not, this is a must have for your keeper collection.
