Sweet Dreams

For over a decade, Megan Montgomery has been gloriously nightmare free. She never knew what had caused the dreams in the first place, but there had been no reason to think they would ever come back. Now the nightmares are back and they are more horrific and gruesome than ever. There is a man out there preying on women and Megan is subjected to every revolting murder, in her dreams. Megan realizes she can’t keep what she knows to herself, but memories of the past give her pause. She remembers the trials and tribulations she had to go through the last time she tried to give the police information and warn them about murders, but by not going to the police, more lives could be lost and Megan can't live with that.

Detective David Stark is furious when a caller claims to see ‘The Cutter’ in her dreams. He’s new to Homicide and this case is taking its toll. When David actually catches Megan at a crime scene he vows to get to the bottom of what she knows, even if he has to drag it out of her. Megan can tell that David isn’t buying her explanations. Even worse, the more she tries to explain, the madder he gets; but then something very unexpected happens. One minute Megan is trying to leave and the next they’re in a passionate embrace that leaves them both stunned. After some investigating, David begins to believe in Megan and her dreams. As David and Megan work together to stop a killer, can David protect Megan when the killer is closer than they think?

Sweet Dreams is like a diamond in the rough. I had no idea when I started this book that I would be completely blown away within just a few pages. Captivated isn’t an intense enough word for what happens when you delve into this book. D L Edwards aptly brings these pragmatic and flawed characters to life. Readers are quickly drawn into Megan’s nightmares, right along with her. The details, clarity, and descriptions are enough to make anyone shudder. Megan hasn’t had an easy life. She barely overcame her past, but she has the strength and dignity to face it all again. David is the ideal hero. He loves his job, but he loves Megan more. His job isn’t always easy, but he’ll protect her at all costs. While ghastly in places, Sweet Dreams is also a passionate, empowering love story. Against all odds, and against what makes sense, it’s obvious that these two people are drawn together. Books like Sweet Dreams are what romantic suspense is all about.
