Diamonds Are Forever – Tarot: Ace of Cups

Diamonds Are Forever is a firm that sells millions of dollars of diamonds at a time, delivering the goods in person by courier and collecting cash. The couriers they employ must be intelligent and entirely trustworthy, as well as nondescript and discreet. Russell Banks and Mariah Eccles are two of the couriers supervised by Roger Woodward, a somewhat mischievous and matchmaking older man. Because of the high value of the current delivery, Woodward assigns both Banks and Eccles to carry it out, although they each normally work alone. In fact, what better than having them pose as an engaged couple on vacation? Maybe the two will see how right they are for each other!

This is like two short stories in one – there’s Mariah and Russell’s story, and then there is Lauren Pennington’s (another employee of the firm). This novella is very light, and a quick read. The plot is very simple, with a modicum of suspense – after all, carrying millions of dollars in diamonds around is pretty suspenseful! I think that the joining of the two stories was a bit awkward; it seemed as if the author had written two separate stories then stuck them together with a bit of exposition, rather than truly merging the two. The characters were attractive and it was fun to see what would happen to them next. I will note that this is an interracial romance, with sensual action and a moderately graphic love scene. I thought this was an interesting read, and quite enjoyed it.
