Bittersweet Reunion

Bittersweet Reunion is the fourth installment in the Contemporary series by Charlene Leonard.

Kathy is someone who just seems to do things the wrong way. Years ago, she fell in love with a man assigned to protect her and then ran him off with one of her many tantrums. She's regretted that mistake ever since. Then Graham calls her to clean up the cabin next door and stock it with groceries. He also gives her instructions to stay away from the man arriving, and Kathy is immediately intrigued, to say the least. Promising Graham she will leave him alone, she finds it more and more difficult once he gets there. His looks are questionable, and he seems to be sick or something. She is genuinely concerned for the well being of others, and that trend only continues with the mystery man one cabin away. She, however, is not prepared when she learns that man is Lonnie, the one she chased away. He is nothing like she remembers; he is bitter and angry now. Will Kathy be able to break down his guard and find the Lonnie she remembers?

Lonnie needs a place to lay his head down, figure out what to do, and be left alone. Calling the only person he knows that could help him, Graham offers to let him use one of his cabins. If the only problem he had was the one his job created, Lonnie could easily get himself together and go on. Unfortunately, it is not long before he realizes that his neighbor is none other than Kathy, the love of his life who threw him away years ago. If that was not enough to cause him pain, she learns he is next door and has taken it upon herself to try to get back into his life regardless of his opinion. He is in danger, and not just from accident-prone Kathy. He just does not know it yet. Will Lonnie survive Kathy and the trouble that tends to follow her every footstep?

Charlene Leonard has written a wonderful story that incorporates pain, side-splitting humor, and romance along the way. Lonnie and Kathy’s characters are as different as night and day, offering readers an enjoyable combination. Kathy is a bubbling, compassionate person who is plagued with terrible timing and circumstances continuously. Lonnie is a man of mystery and full of self-doubt who needs someone to jumpstart his desire to fight for what he wants. Kathy is just the person he needs in his life. Unfortunately, getting close to Kathy brings trouble and he will continuously find himself struggling to overcome all of the misfortunes that Kathy brings into his life. The tender and heartfelt romance between them will leave readers breathless and teary-eyed

Bittersweet Reunion is part of a series that I have not had the great fortune of reading. This was my first exposure to it and definitely will not be my last. This story is beautifully written to the point that it could absolutely stand on its own, although I am not sure there is a reader out there that could just stop with one like this. The secondary characters, all of whom are governmental agents of some kind or gifted, offer a wonderful addition to this story. If any reader is like me, the story will only entice them even more to read the entire series. Lonnie and Kathy make a beautiful couple, and they had me cheering for them to find one another, themselves, and survive all at the same time. Kathy is type of person you only hope to meet or have as friend, and the one that you will be nervous to be around for very long at one time. Charlene Leonard has outdone herself and produced a story sure to engulf readers with the desire to read it cover to cover, barely stopping to even breathe. Bittersweet Reunion is nothing short of 5 Angels and a Recommended Read!
