Eternal Passion
Ryan Douglas is a famous soap opera star who has returned to his home town for performance in a benefit play. He has been cast to play the almighty role of Robert the Bruce in the midst of a battle for Scotland against King Edward of England. Susan Keith is a local girl fortunate enough to be cast in the role of Lady Buchan. Susan finds herself enamored by Ryan, but she is just a common girl from North Carolina. Ryan is her leading man, but only in this play. He would never be interested in the likes of her and she is willing to accept this one small moment in his limelight. When the theater erupts in fire, Susan finds herself thrown to the floor with Ryan begging her to get up and stay with him. She would like nothing else, but then everything in the theater fades away. Can Ryan save Susan from the fire only to lose her? Will Susan stay with Ryan as he asks or is it too late for her?
For Lady Gillian, life has been largely without pleasure. Married to a man out of duty and then widowed by a war, she is left in the keep of the Queen with a Highland laird by the name of Sir Alex Campbell. Alex is a man who finds nothing but pleasure in the company of woman and believes it will be the same with Gillian. When the passion between them is undeniable, Alex and Gillian's lives are changed in ways neither of them expects. Forced to flee the Kildrummy Castle due to encroaching soldiers, Alex and Gillian spend many moments beneath the stars and find themselves bonding in more ways than just the physical connection they have enjoyed with each other. They are left with no alternative other than to leave each other's company in order to ensure safety of the women. Alex vows to find her when he is able to. Will Alex and Gillian find love in the midst of the struggles of war that engulf their land and home? Can two people love each other deeply enough that they will travel regardless of distance and time to find one another?
Brandy Lee has created a wonderful story that offers readers a glimpse of two different times and places. The story of Alex and Gillian is rich in characters, passion, and the pain of many struggles. Alex is left utterly confused with the array of emotions that he encounters upon meeting and falling for Gillian. Gillian is given an opportunity to know how love is truly meant to be instead of marrying for honor and duty. The two characters are a wonderful compliment to each other: strong in their own way yet tender and compassionate too. The physical chemistry between Alex and Gillian is sizzling and tantalizing to say the least. The tale of Ryan and Susan is short yet just as rewarding as the one between Alex and Gillian. The ability for two people to have only just met yet connect with each other is electrifying. The two characters offer readers a story that is beautiful and rewarding to watch unfold.
I have never read a story that would be considered a historical, especially one set in a time of such different customs, beliefs, and dilemmas than the today's modern world. I have to say that I was immediately drawn into Alex and Gillian’s story set in the 1700’s. It was beautifully written, giving the reader the opportunity to share each and every one of their emotions as if it were their own while creating a time and place so different then what the reader knows. It was a thrilling combination for me. I enjoyed this story tremendously, and will definitely be reading more stories set in this time period. Alex and Ryan’s concern for both Gillian and Susan is as heartwarming. Gillian’s passion for Alex is intense, and Susan's instant attraction to Ryan is just as passionate. It was endearing to watch the stories unfold between each set of characters. Brandy Lee offers readers two outstanding stories of struggles, compassion, and love that stand through the grains of time. Eternal Passion is definitely worth reading and has earned 5 Angels!
