The Tempest

After Ally’s husband, Michael, dies, she decides to separate from her career in Boston and move to a small town in Tennessee. The Army veteran and former private investigator wanted to put the past behind her, but that was before an old acquaintance hired her to help him undercover some town secrets. Instead of taking the bait like a dangling worm hooking a fish, she should have ran like wildfire, but after seeing C.J. again, her heart keeps her feet planted in the small town. Can old feelings ignite again before another murder takes place?

C.J. Lanahan was Michael’s best friend. When he hires Ally on as a private investigator he never expected their friendship to increase into something more, but his heart was taking him on a higher level with her. There are some matters in the small town that need to be uncovered and he enlists her help. Someone is intent on keeping quiet and he wants answers. Can he and Ally live to expose the truth, while finding themselves drawn to the other?

The Tempest is a wonderful, fast paced book that grabs you at the first page. The characters are lively and their banter keeps the story flowing smoothly. I really enjoyed C.J.’s determination to hold onto something that he loved when he realized that Ally was worth ever bit of a fight. This is a great story with some twist and turns that will have you cheering for C.J. and Alley in the end. They make great partners whether searching for a killer or cuddling behind closed doors.

Karen Troxel knows how to write a story to hook the reader and keep them entertained. Her characters are well rounded and believable. Her flare for writing is truly remarkable. This book should definitely be showcased on a bookshelf. It is a keeper!
