A Touch of Fae

Em Charvez is part of an amazingly powerful family of witches, she has her own powers of empathy and a fabulous feel for books and artifacts. What her family doesn’t seem to understand is that she feels like she is less powerful than them and that they treat her as if she’s less than they are. After her sister thwarted the evil designs of a wizard, Em has had an amazing collection of books of dark magic come into her hands. While cataloguing them she has come across the mention of a book that could destroy her family and a curious set of marks. When she copies them to show someone, the sigils whisper to a lost people.

Conchobar MacNessa is a ten-thousand-year-old Faerie warrior who has been given a task by his Queen: find out who wants the book, The Shifting Veil, and why. When Con receives this task he is prepared to be bored while babysitting a human; until he sees Em for the first time. He is drawn into her life and actually finds himself fascinated by her and watches her from afar. Circumstances bring them together and they join forces. The fight is on to keep a demon from getting the book and destroying the Compact that has given the Charvez family their powers, and possibly destroying the world.

A Touch of Fae is the second book in the Witches Knot series and must be read in order. Triad, the first book, is available at Ellora’s Cave.

This is my second time enmeshed in this world and I love it! Ms. Dane has delivered a wonderful story yet again. I feel that the strength of this story is that a woman with so much power feels powerless compared to her family. I felt it to be a serious topic that was dealt with very well. What happens when the whole family coddles a member? They feel inferior. Em is a great character with great strength. To go to another continent to escape her family took a lot of confidence. I really enjoyed watching her grow as a woman under Con’s expert tutelage. Any man who’s ten thousand years old has got to have a few things up his sleeves. I cannot wait to hear what happens next in this series. I hope there will be more. This world is too fascinating for the series to be done.
