Broken

Kari has just gotten out of an abusive relationship and is trying to find companionship. She tries the dating scene and after a disastrous encounter is feeling lost. When she stumbles across a drunk on top of her car, she can only think, "what now?"

Jesse feels as if his heart has been ripped from his chest. The woman he loved loves another and he cannot find a way past that. When he passes out on a stranger’s car, he has finally hit the bottom. When the stranger ends up being an attractive woman with pain in her eyes, he takes a second look and gets to know her. Can these two broken people heal each other?

This was an extremely realistic book. There was no glossing over the darker side of the relationship and the feelings that these two characters shared. This was a very well-written book, just not my style. I found it a little hard to read because I enjoy the escapist side of romance where there is one huge issue to get over and they live happily-ever-after. This was a gritty, romantic story that held nothing back. The trials and the demise of a relationship are written of faithfully. I did enjoy the give and take between Jesse and Kari. Broken could almost be the true story of a couple you knew living down the street.
