Emerald Heat

Married for just five months, Lily and Jim were expecting their first child. They were returning from a belated honeymoon, when the engine of Jim’s plane exploded, causing the plane to crash. Each suffered terrible injuries, and required hospitalisation. In the days following the crash, both Lily and Jim were told that the other had died, and Jim was given Lily’s engagement and wedding rings.

Now, nearly four years later, Jim is stunned when he catches sight of a woman who looks exactly like his dead wife. Lily greets Jim with passionate hugs and kisses. However, she abruptly tells him that he must stay away from her and accuses him of attempting to kill her, abandoning her and deceiving her. He is bewildered by Lily’s sudden change in attitude. What was going on? When he receives a divorce decree the following day, which she had signed the day after the crash, Jim wonders how Lily could have done this to him. He asks himself who convinced Lily to divorce him, as he does not believe that it would have been her idea. Jim vows to find Lily and to demand answers from her.

Lily is living a nightmare. Her grandfather is the ruler of San Torreon, a small South American country. He is a cruel and vindictive man. He’s blackmailing Lily, his only grandchild and last of his bloodline, to marry his right hand man, as he wants to continue his family dynasty. Lily still loves Jim and desperately wants to be with him. How can she escape from her tyrannical grandfather and her evil intended fiancé?

Emerald Heat has it all; from action, suspense, drama, romance, passion, courage, exotic locations, good guys and bad guys. Barbara Clark skilfully combines all these elements to weave a compelling story, which draws the reader into Lily and Jim’s world and their desperate struggle to protect those they love. This was my first Barbara Clark story and it won’t be my last.
