Blood Moon
On the morning following the announcement of Aslyn's betrothal to Wilhem of Leitsey Marr, Aslyn woke feeling tired and groggy, as though she had inbibed too much wine the night before. She was also naked and covered in blood, and had no idea how this had come about. No sooner had she washed off the blood and disposed of the bloody water, than her maid rushed in to tell her that Wilhem had been brutally slain, apparently by wild animals.
Certain she had somehow killed Wilhem without remembering it and that she might harm the people she loved, Aslyn fled her home, hoping to find out what is wrong with her and a cure for whatever it is. Over the next three years, she gathers a great deal of information and skill in the healing arts but nothing that will help her to cure herself of the madness which continues to afflict her during the full of the moon.
Approaching a small village she meets a family and joins them to enter the town. They meet a group of soldiers who have been tracking a pack of wolves, who seem to have been following her these three years and have been attacking people in the area. Among them are two men, Kale, a hunter and Lord Algar, the leader of the soldiers, who both take an interest in Aslyn.
She is attracted to Kale and repulsed by Lord Algar. Both men want her and she wants Kale. But she knows that until she finds out what is causing it and can find a way to cure or at least control it, there's no future for them. Then Lord Algar attacks her, admits to her that he's a werewolf and tells her that she is too then tries to rape her. Kale saves her; they spend a night together then he leaves her to find out why his men haven't returned to town. He finds them all dead, and he returns to Aslyn to tell her that he must go tell the families of the men. He admits that he knows that Algar and his men are werewolves.
Because the last two attacks on villagers were on two people that had been recently treated by Aslyn, the townspeople have turned against her. With Kale leaving, she decides that she has to escape while she can before Kale learns what she is and turns against her too. Before, she can see the revulsion for her in his eyes.
A fantastic paranormal romance, this book is a wonderful read. Well worth the reader’s time, it's a real joy. Along with continuous action, a timeless love, and strong characters, this story has it all. The only thing that bothered me in the entire story was the death of John Halard. However, this death adds a lot of interest to the story and makes it much more touching. This book also deals with aspects of the world of the shape shifter that this reviewer has never considered before, making it a great read for anyone who is interested in this phase of the paranormal genre.
Ms. Kincaid is a talented author and one that this reviewer will be reading more of. Paranormal romance has long been a favorite genre for this reader/reviewer, and this book ranks right up there with the best of them. Anyone who enjoys this genre will do themselves a favor to watch this author. She's going places.
