Nightwalkers
Nightwalkers aren't dependant on the full moon for the change, nor are they loners, they stay in packs. When the leader, who is called The Konor, dies his mate called the Jacynthe will commit suicide. The new Konor would have to find his mate from a woman who is born at the exact hour of the previous woman's death.
For the last month Jacqueline Talbot has been having dreams that haunt her. She isn't getting enough sleep and she's losing weight. Her doctor can't find a reason for it, but prescribes her a mild sedative so she'll be able to get some sleep. After getting home from work that night, she notices that her tennis shoes are muddy and a white dress, that she hasn't worn in ages, is wet. Wondering about it and deciding she'll give them away, she thinks maybe Jacynthe wore them, the imaginary friend she hadn't thought of in years. When she was little and would get into trouble she'd say it was Jacynthe was the one who'd done it. Figuring she might feel better getting out of her apartment, she decides to try the new Goth place "The Cave", where she meets Conor Montrose, and boy does he pack a punch and they have a date for dinner the next night.
Conor knew that Jackie was his Jacynthe, but first she has to go through the test. After dinner they go back to his place, so he can talk to her, show her things and finally take her to Magdalena, the trainer. Where she will be tested beyond her wildest dreams. If she survives then Conor, who is the current Konor, will come back for her.
I loved this story. Why? Because it made my heart pound when Jackie was going through her test. It made me root for her, that she'd become the new Jacynthe and that she'll have her life with Conor. It even made me wonder if I had to make the same decisions that Jackie did, would I be able to. The length that she goes through to prove she is the Jacynthe is what makes her the perfect Jacynthe. Ms. South writes a story that is both astounding and highly enjoyable. I'll read this one again and again. 5 Angels
