He'd built her a house of stone walls by the ocean that was impregnable. The windows had bars and the only way in or out were by climbing, getting on the narrow ledge and then opening the door with the key only he held. Casson wanted her safe from the outside world; they'd either use her for scientific purposes or kill her outright. He hoped Lanore understood that as they didn't speak the same language. They had tried to teach each other their languages, but neither could grasp it. He loved her and only wanted to keep her safe. He's gotten her a canary and a puppy to keep her company.

After he'd come back from being outside the walls, he notices that there are drops of blood on the counter by the sink, on the floor, and a splash on the cupboard. He follows them from the kitchen into the front room and things aren't the way they are suppose to be. Something is wrong, he fears that something bad has happened to her, or she's done something to herself and calls out to her, no answer. He sees that the canary is dead, and the puppy comes to him but he knows that the puppy won't take him to Lanore. What's happened, is she dead like the canary or just hurt? Read the story to find out.

Ms. Lynn has made a day in the lives of these characters that makes you want to know more. Her details are not only believable but make you wish you had a house like this. You want Lanore to understand that Casson does truly love her and wants only to keep her safe, and for them to understand each other. I will definitely be reading more of her books. 4 Angels
