Elise Marceau is the daughter of the Beta wolf of the Evergreen Island werewolf pack and, from her childhood, she was betrothed to Jared, the son of the Alpha. In the weeks before the wedding, Elise has begun to doubt whether she loves Jared, and whether she should marry him. One night she goes for a run in her wolf form, and meets a wolf she doesn’t recognize. They are drawn to each other, and have wild wolfy sex together. In the morning, when they come back to their human forms, she discovers that he is Mical Edwards, an Omega of the pack. While both are shocked at the feelings this one night has engendered in them, the ramifications of Elise’s position in the pack makes continuing their relationship impossible. Then why can neither of them turn loose?

This short story (41 pages) introduces a new werewolf series. This is a Romeo and Juliet story – two young lovers are separated by rank and station, but fight to keep their love alive. (It even has a balcony scene!) Luckily, the ending is happier than that of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy. Elise and Mical are very engaging characters, each deeply in love with the other. I liked the pacing of this story. The love scenes are emotional and erotic, but are not intrusions into the story; these scenes amplify the plot and move it forward. I highly recommend this story and I’m looking forward to future installments in this series.
