Linea is being brutalized by her uncle and is determined to escape his clutches. He wants to marry Linea off to Pandrum, a most abhorrent man with even more abhorrent sexual desires. Linea knows that she will be going from one brutal household to another. After all Linea has been through, she deserves some happiness is willing to risk possible death by seeking it.

King Draven is out trying to capture Gavril, an elf who has wrecked all sorts of havoc in the kingdom. He stumbles across Linea and is enraged to discover that this young woman has been tortured. Against his friend’s objection, Draven takes the woman home, puts her under his protection and nurses her back to health.

Linea is afraid to tell Draven who she really is, for she doesn’t want to be returned to her uncle. She is understandably mistrustful of men and she tells him her name is Joan. Linea is a heroine who is seeking her independence and must come to grips with the love she has for Draven. Draven is very drawn to “Joan” and Gavril (who has now been captured) tells him that there is a bond between Draven and his mysterious woman that Draven must not interfere with. Draven is a darling of a hero he is a fair leader and swears to protect his people and his woman alike.

The characters in Warlord’s Gift fairly jump off of the page. Linea is determined to overcome the obstacles in her life. She has been battered physically but her spirit helps her to triumph, thereby making her a very likeable heroine. The sexual tension between Draven and Linea makes Warlord’s Gift a very hot read indeed. More importantly Ms. Chadwick’s attention to her Draven and Linea’s needs make this reader glad I read it Ms. Chadwick’s Warlord’s Gift is an engrossing read and is a must for every romance readers shelf.
