Shadow Moon

Dale is at last ready to lay her sister’s memory to rest. Even though she never saw the body, after seven years she has to believe that she has died. As Dale and her daughter Thea stand at the river’s edge, she pauses to throw the necklace her sister gave her into the water. As she does, lightning strikes, and she is propelled into a world that she never imagined. Now Dale is struggling to survive in a world that isn’t even close to her own, and fighting to return to her daughter.

The last thing Shadow needs is to pick up the woman he found in the snow. He’s on the trail of a group of slavers that are trying to overthrow his monarch’s kingdom, and is currently undercover as a slaver. He can’t afford the distraction of Dale, but he has no choice or she will die. Reluctant though he is, he’s finding that this strange woman is starting to grow on him, and both of them might be falling in love.

Shadow Moon is one of the best stories I have read in a long time. Dale is a strong woman who isn’t afraid to take risks for her family and those she loves. I really liked her character, she never reacted in a way that made me see her as the weak woman who needs saving. Shadow has a lot of issues in his past, and is working towards a goal that he feels he must achieve. He doesn’t really like his own methods sometimes, but he feels the end justifies the means. The interaction between the two is wonderful to see, with both of them trying to be on equal ground. There is some mention of Dale’s daughter Thea, and she is a wonderful character all her own. Elysa Hendricks has built a world that I found fascinating and absorbing. I haven’t read the first story in this series, but I didn’t really feel like I had to in order to understand what was going on. Elysa Hendricks is one writer that I will be sure to look out for in the future.
