Forever Crossed
Olivia Peters is a Bereavement Specialist with a twist. Working for the Forever Crossed Funeral Home, Olivia's job is just a bit more complex than it would seem at first. To begin with, not all of the dead of Forever Crossed stay that way. Olivia lives in a part of the country where there is a rather large community of vampires. Even she is the survivor of an attack by a wereleopard, just one more of the monstrous creatures that share the land.
In the first person, Olivia tells how, in her work as a Bereavement Specialist, her amazing talent in communicating with the dead makes her a hot commodity. With her wit, her 9mm Sig Sauer, and hydroshock silver bullets, she takes on any job that her boss Linc calls her in for. This time, she is up against a murderer who is not quite human, and is expected by both her boss and the handsome leader of the vampire community, to find and destroy this menace to both worlds.
With coffee as her main staple, and death everywhere she looks, Olivia unwillingly joins forces with the dark side to rid the world of the vampire Feine. In fact, Olivia visits places that she would never have thought possible in Forever Crossed. One of them is a perilous nightclub, where the creatures of the night gather. Here she encounters her nemesis, a beautiful and treacherous vampire who is a stranger to the area. But Olivia is protected by the Ja’Nan, healers of the vampire community.
As a new reader of vampire fiction, I found Forever Crossed an exciting story. Olivia is a strong woman, although she does have her weaknesses. The rather undead Antonio, comes across like the man of any woman's dreams, tall dark and mysterious. With only the suggestion of sensuality between the well written scenes of action, Forever Crossed is an enjoyable read, and keeps the interest right through to the end. I recommend it to anyone, especially newcomers to vampire fiction such as myself.
