The Gunsmith Series Book IV:
Six Shot

Once again, Boothenay Irons has been thrust into the past. This time it is an old LaMat revolver and an Appaloosa horse named Six Shot that are the catalyst for her and Caleb’s next dangerous adventure. Stuck in the year 1877, right in the middle of the Nez Perce War, they find themselves occupying the bodies of Button, a hurdy-gurdy girl running from an abusive stepfather and fighting off the advances of the villainous Sheriff Larsen, and Caleb Wing, an infamous gunfighter. But scalp-seeking Indians are not the only problem Boothenay must overcome. Caleb has no memory of being anyone other than Wing, the gunslinger. In order for them to go back to their time, he must remember who he is, for he is the only one with enough power to get them back safely.

Believing that Caleb is the murderer of their sacred shaman, Indians kidnap him, and leave Boothenay for dead. She fears that this time history has won and that there will be no way out. To complicate matters even more, Sheriff Larsen and her stepfather have joined forces determined to find her and make sure that Caleb pays for the murder that they, themselves, committed. With time and ammunition running out, can Boothenay once again save the life of the man she loves?

I have had the pleasure of reading all four books in Ms. Crigger’s Gunsmith series. I felt that Six Shot lacked the action and emotion of the previous stories. I am craving a story with Caleb being as bold and prominent of a character as Boothenay. He has so much untold potential with his growing powers, I was a bit disappointed when he did not play as big of a part in this story that I thought he would. Boothenay also seemed less energetic and lively as her character has been in the past. The only other problem I had with this story was that it seemed to end abruptly. I felt that one more chapter was needed to fully complete the book.

That aside, it was still an enjoyable read. The descriptive writing and historic detail really brings the reader into the story. Boothenay and Caleb are both wonderful characters. I sincerely hope that Ms. Crigger will continue with their story.
