Wizard’s Bridge
Wizard’s Bridge is the story of Alsa, a naïve and somewhat sheltered farm girl. She knows she has a spark of talent for wizardry however and when neighboring enemies threaten her town she realizes she’s the only hope for salvation. Thus, she takes it upon herself to find a wizard to train her in the mystical arts. Little does she realize how difficult this undertaking is going to be…nor the price she will have to pay in the end.
Korlean is aged wizard of some talent, but he comes with baggage in his past. When he first meets Alsa he doesn’t believe she has what it takes to become a full-fledged wizard, much less be of any use in saving her town. But he takes her on never the less and begins her training…for a heavy the price. With his own mortality weighing heavily upon him though he soon realizes it’s he who may pay the ultimate price…
Wizard’s Bridge is a finely crafted tale of wizards, magic, heartache and anguish. Through its pages this reviewer found herself engulfed in a world of mystics, power, love and romance between two very powerful characters.
In Alsa we find a young woman, just beginning her life, who must sacrifice so much of herself to save the people she loves. In Korlean we find a powerful, handsome and coldly driven wizard who has no desire to interfere in the affairs of mere mortals, much less train one to master the spark of talent she carries. But when Alsa readily accepts the price of his training he finds himself opening up for the first time in many years.
I was warmed by Karen McCullough’s ability to weave a tale with such depths of fear, honesty and love. Her words take the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions that will leave you panting and heaving for more. When you throw a wonderfully written and playful Dragon into the mix, Wizard’s Bridge is destined for more greatness than even the Wizards themselves.
I happily give this five, glowing, beaming Angels and look forward to more works like this from Karen’s world.
