Shadows Of Deception
Brian Fogarty is a tired policeman. He is seriously thinking of resigning from the force. He has actually been carrying around his letter of resignation for a long time now. His wife Christine has never liked his job and has been after him for a while to quit and go to work for their neighbor in his furniture store. That thought doesn't thrill him either. After a close call at a drug bust, Brian decides to quit. However, Captain Albert Fernandez, Brian's boss talks Brian into taking some time off to think about it some more. Brian agrees and plans a vacation at his family's cabin in the mountains. However far from the relaxing fishing trip Brian envisioned, he and his wife are soon on the run because a hit man has tracked them down and is on the hunt. After a terrorizing trek through the cold autumn mountains in the barest of clothing, Brian and Christine manage to outmaneuver the hit man and head back to town. When he reports the adventures to his co-workers and boss a full-fledged investigation begins. But one that only brings more questions than answers. Who could possibly want him dead? The list of possible suspects soon contains some disturbing people that he once thought he could trust.
This reviewer found this book hard to understand and keep up with at first as it jumped from one scene to another with new characters, but soon they all fell into place and began to make sense. The characters in this book are believable and incredibly well written. Brian is a tough and dedicated policeman who really doesn't want to quit but is pressured by his worried wife that is left at home to fret on her husband's safety. His wife's brother is in dept up to his eyes to a loan shark betting on horse races. His partner, Gabe Bethencourt is a womanizer that catches every woman's eye that he meets. Captain Fernandez is still grieving at the loss of his beloved wife and is so close to retirement that he can almost taste it. These are just a sample of the characters that Gary Carmody has penned in this keep you on the edge of your seat tale.
This book is full of suspense from start to finish. And the surprise ending just may shock you. Sit back, fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride! This reviewer highly recommends this book to all suspense lovers out there.
