A Mistress Gets a Master
Every once in a while you receive a book to review and the story just literally jumps out at you. A Mistress gets a Master is such a wonderfully written romantic story about a young, soon to be single, mother with a disability. Lisa Mechinka is blind, alone, scared, full of insecurities and deathly afraid of loving. The only person she truly allows in her dark world is her three year old son Tommy.
Lisa goes to a trainer to get a guide dog. Her insecurities bring doubt in her mind about trusting an animal to lead her in her daily life but she realizes she must do it. Boyd Westin, a guide dog trainer, must match Lisa with a dog that will suit her physical and mental needs. He picks Amber, a Golden Retriever that adores him, to be suited with Lisa since both human and dog have a sadness in their eyes. He hopes they will become a perfect match for each other.
Lisa begins to have feelings for Boyd and Boyd returns these feelings, he makes her feel safe in a world that scares her. They ignite a fire but the flames become too much for Lisa to handle. She's afraid to be hurt again and sends him straight into another woman's arms. Her ex then claims she is not the best choice for little Tommy to live with and a custody hearing starts. Her life is crashing before her and somehow she has to get out of the mess, she must be independent and strong to save her son and her heart.
Lois Wencil is brilliant. Her writing is extremely powerful. The story of this courageous woman is heart felt. It appears to be more then just a story by how in depth the emotions run. A Mistress gets a Master is a wonderful book to read if you want to feel true emotions from two strong characters, to envision how Amber, the Golden Retriever, must have felt with the conflicts going on in her world and the disability this lady lives with and doesn't use as a crutch. She fought the world, the ex husband, and her fear and she lives. Excellent Story..
