At Long Last, Love
At Long Last, Love by Judy Bagshaw is an anthology of short stories featuring plus-sized heroines who find love in the most unexpected places.
Duet features Tricia, a middle-aged heroine traveling with her sister in a bus. Though her husband Ben has been dead for two years, Tricia has convinced herself she is happy with her life. Then she catches the eye of the bus driver, Harry, and can’t help thinking that growing old alone is no fun at all. When they discover a shared love for music, their relationship seems destined for a happily-ever-after. Can Harry convince Tricia it’s time to live again?
Coming Home is a sweet story of Bev, who ran away from home with the local bad boy, Jim, only to realize that it was a mistake. She had given up the love of her life for Jim, but twenty-years later, all she feels is regret. When she sees Darren again, she still gets tingly. Will Darren and Bev have a second chance at love?
Always the Bridesmaid is the story of Jenna, who sees all her friends getting married, but she hasn’t been able to find her own Mr. Right. Of course, it doesn’t help that she has a poor self-image of herself. It will take an unexpected meeting with Barrington Lockhart to finally listen to all the advice she’s been giving over the years. It’s time to seize the moment, and just maybe she’ll find true love in the process.
Blue Collar Knight features the feisty Marcie, who is searching for her knight in shining armor. She doesn’t expect him to show up when her friend’s car breaks down, but she definitely gets more than she bargained for when she meets Mike. He’s out to prove that not everyone makes fun of the plus-sized women of the world.
The Jackpot is an intriguing story about librarian Cathy who wins the lottery! She has to split the winnings with the co-winner Ray. Cathy is very attracted to Ray, but their introduction is brief and she doesn’t think she’ll see him again. But one day he shows up at the library and Cathy can’t help hoping that he felt the same chemistry as her. Will Cathy hit The Jackpot with Ray?
Wrong Number? is the story of Lori, who works for an answering service. Every night when Dan calls they share laughs and lots of flirting. But when he asks to meet her in person, Lori doesn’t know what to do? She’s sure he won’t be attracted to her chubby frame, but at the same time, she doesn’t want to miss out on the chance to meet the sexy voiced Dan. Will she be courageous enough to face her fears and win the man of her dreams?
Vivian’s Muse features writer Vivian McLeish. She’s come to relax at her old childhood cabin. She’s sick in front of Rolly Stevenson, who’s come to open up her cabin. He’s a big fan of her novels but can’t help but think she’s a bit of a snob. Will Vivian be able to change his first impression of her and make him see the kind and loving woman underneath?
At Long Last, Love was a wonderful collection of stories. I enjoyed each and every one of them. They were all well written and had original characters and plots. The central theme of plus-sized heroines also added something to the story. I love how plus-sized heroines are becoming more and more popular in romantic fiction and Judy Bagshaw continues this trend wonderfully in her stories. Everyone deserves love and happiness, and this comes across quite clearly in this collection. Definitely a must read.
