Full Moon Rising
Beth Parks is a high-powered attorney in Nebraska. She is also a werewolf. Her newest case involves a group of werewolves fighting against Anderson, Hunt, and Anderson, a group who wants to turn several acres of land into shopping districts and other commercial enterprises. Beth knows she can’t represent Anderson, Hunt, and Anderson due to her conflict of interest. She also knows she can’t deprive a den of so much land to run free on. Things go from bad to worse when her ailing mother calls her home to Minnesota.
When Beth arrives in Minnesota, it is to discover that he mother isn’t sick, it was just a ploy to get her daughter to her small hometown in order to help the bad situation that has been evolving for the werewolves. Law enforcement agents have been forcing werewolves to be tagged when they enter town. Beth knows this is illegal and intends to fight it, but when pack leader Ethan Masterson finds out, he is livid. He has been working to smooth over human-werewolf relations for a while now and he knows that due to Beth’s antics, they might just have suffered a set back. He’s determined to put this aggressive female in her place.
Beth and Ethan have a history together, and not a good one, but when Beth sees Ethan again, all she can think about is the fact that he is the alpha male for her. He’s the only one who can stand up to her aggressive nature and dominate personality. She has been looking for a man who can do it, and she knows that he is the one. Too bad there’s so much bad blood between them. But Ethan isn’t going to let bad blood stand in his way of winning Beth, who he recognizes as his mate. He’s determined to win her, on his terms, just as she’s determined that he will come to her on her terms. Will Beth submit to Ethan and finally find the peace and happiness she deserves, or is she destined to be alone forever?
This was the first werewolf story I’ve read and I have to say, I loved it. Lorie O’Clare really knows how to create tension, and her writing brilliantly showcased the divide between humans and werewolves. She really made her werewolves come alive for me. I saw them as humans, and not as the destroyers portrayed in many of the old black and white horror films. Ethan wanted to protect his pack, but at the same time, he was searching for someone to complete him. The interactions between Ethan and Beth were wonderful, the tension continued to build in each scene they were together. Both wanted to help werewolves, but they wanted to do it in their own way. It wasn’t until they came together and learned to compromise, not only with werewolf-human relations, but also in their relationship with each other, that they were able to fully commit to each other. From the first to the last page, I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to read more of Lorie O’Clare’s stories.
