Something About That Lady

Brie Beaumont is invited to visit Matt Cameron’s ranch in Alberta. They met on an Alaskan cruise. Matt, who is blind, and his companion, Hank are playing matchmaker. Matt’s brother Jed is in need of a wife and in their opinion, Brie is the right lady for the job. Jed doesn’t take kindly to Brie’s visit and suspects she has ulterior motives. However, these two do fall in love but Jed must overcome his suspicions if they are to live happily ever after.

Brie is a woman who has suffered in her previous marriage. Believing she was in love and vice versa, she was shattered when she realized her husband wanted her for his own selfish reasons. He needed a nursemaid during his remaining months of life. Her sense of herself was submerged and lost during her marriage. The cruise she takes is part of her plan to move on and recharge herself. She never expected to find love but yet she does. Jed comes across as a crotchety, suspicious male. Although described as quite a looker, his personality underwhelmed this reader. He disparages Brie at every turn but yet finds himself wanting her. His mother’s abandonment plays a big role in his life. He doesn’t seem to have gotten over it and projects all those feelings onto his relationship with Brie. It takes a tragic accident to shake him up. Jed becomes more human and more likable as a result. Brie and Jed experience tremendous growth as the story progresses. The secondary characters of Hank and Matt were an added plus to the book. They provide the impetus for Brie and Jed as they play “matchmaker” to the hilt.

Something About That Lady is a celebration of the human spirit. The characters are able to meet the challenges life throws at them. They mature and endure throughout the book. This was an uplifting story which provides the happily ever after that all romance readers expect.
