Ultimate Warriors Anthology
Demon Huntress: Sacrificed by Jaide Fox
Nariko is haunted by dreams of demons. One demon in particular taunts her sexually and threatens her with rape. She seeks help from her night terrors in the form of Dr. Shayne Savage, a dream therapist.
Demon Huntress: Sacrificed is a great start to the Ultimate Warriors: Anthology. The story was suspenseful and kept me reading until the end. The characters are memorable and the ending was not at all what I expected. Ms. Fox's Huntress: Sacrificed set the momentum for the anthology and had me thirsty for more.
With Great Power by Brenna Lyons
Soulchaser was born with psychokinetic powers. At a very young age, he was taken from his family and placed in the academy to hone his powers and serve mankind. He had no say in the matter as this was his destiny. Starseeker, however, has different plans for Soulchaser.
With Great Power, the second story in the anthology, was interesting but didn't really hold my attention. Ms. Lyon's idea of superheroes being forced to serve mankind was very interesting. However, I felt the story's pacing was slow until the big secret was revealed at the end.
Heroes Incorporated by Joy Nash
Imagine a real-life Justice League come with the superheroes we know and love as well as their nemeses. That is exactly what Heroes Incorporated is.
Clark Kendell is on a mission to stop Lex Loser from destroying the world. To do this, he must bring Blossom Breeze into her full powers. That is not going to be as easy as it sounds.
Heroes Incorporated was definitely my favorite story of the anthology. I liked her characterizations which were reminiscent of some of my favorite superheroes. I was riveted to this story from beginning to end, all th ewhilecheeringourprotagonist.Superheroesstoriesarebest when the hero saves the day and gets the girl.
Silk by Michelle M. Pillow
Quinlan St. James hides a secret. She is Silk, born from her father's experimental formula given to her to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. Now she fights to find her father's killer, alienated from the world. Nickandros Grant hopes to find out the secrets behind William St. James' formula and prevent Quinlan from selling it to the highest bidder.
Silk was an interesting story of a tortured superhero who is trying to overcome her past. The plot was fast-paced and easy to follow. I felt Silk was a great addition to the Ultimate Warriors Anthology.
I found the entire anthology very enjoyable. My personal favorite was Heroes Incorporated but all of the stories are engrossing and well-written. I recommend the Ultimate Warriors Anthology to everyone who loves a great superhero story or a few as in the case of this anthology.
