When The Wind Blows
The last James Patterson novel I read was part of the Alex Cross series, so When The Wind Blows rather took me by surprise. While the novel is still written in his fast-paced, take no prisoner method, Mr. Patterson has chosen to meld POVs. So, if you are a POV purist, this is not the novel for you. However, if you are a reader who loves an interesting story that will pick you up and sweep you away, this is definitely worth your time.
FBI Agent, Kit Harrison aka Tom Brennan, has been put on leave. He’s no longer supposed to be a part of the investigation in to genetic modification and malpractice in the pediatrics field, but somehow Kit/Tom can’t take no for an answer. Pretending to be on vacation in Nantucket, he’s actually still investigating in Colorado.
Frannie O’Neill is a veterinarian in Colorado. She is a widow, trying very hard to recover from the mysterious death of her husband, a doctor.
Max and her brother Matthew are special. When I say special, that’s the only word I can find to describe these young children who have been created by biological and genetic modifications. They are human, but they aren’t. With code names like Tinkerbell, Wendy and Adam these children represent where the future of medicine is going. And that future is as scary as hell.
Kit rents a cabin from Frannie and the games begin. Her cabin is burned, people shoot at them, Kit’s not Kit and Max has wings. These are just a few of the exhilarating twists and turns that are ingeniously spliced into When The Window Blows. Again, Mr. Patterson treats his readers to intrigue, amazing leaps of faith, a smattering of science and enough conscience to make us all take a pause and wonder…is it truly worth it. Well done. Four Angels.
