Turning the Tide

Callie decides its time for a change. She’s weary of the vanilla life she leads with her boyfriend, Jack. Even though she’s a successful writer, she realizes that she needs more out of her personal life. Seeking some time for herself, Callie rents a house in Maine, where the ghosts of the past owner continues to stir the town. Upon her first night at Lecher’s Point, Callie receives a vivid erotic dream, more intense that any she’s experienced before. She begins to think seriously about her sexual preferences and the aspects of her sexual life that she may have been suppressing. Callie’s dream lover brings about a range of emotions and carefully balances the line between pleasure and pain. Although Callie does love Jack, she knows that her dream lover gives her what no man ever has. Callie will find that now might be the time for her to begin a new life.

Turning the Tide by Eve Lilas is a mystery/bdsm novel with small elements of the paranormal. Ms. Lilas has a mature, experienced writing voice than many readers will appreciate and this story will surely keep your interest during the beginning chapters as you wonder whether Callie’s dreams are reality of fantasy. However I felt the story was a bit rushed, with the experiences, discovery and decisions occurring within a short time period. I didn’t feel as if I was able to sincerely bond with the characters due to personality changes that occurred within the span of a couple of paragraphs. Yet, the intriguing aspects of the plot regarding the history between Lecher’s Point and Callie’s experiences provided a new spin on a familiar bdsm awakening tale. I know that many readers will enjoy this story of a strong woman who finally comes to terms with her erotic submissiveness.
