Temperature’s Rising

What a day she’s having! All Jessica wants is a nice, normal job. Having grown up in a sea of adrenaline junkies, Jessica just wants a job that doesn’t include being a doctor, a firefighter, or a cop. It seems every member of her family wears some kind of uniform. Now Jessica, after quitting the force, she has become a real estate agent. What should have been a simple house showing turns into something else entirely.

One the first day of his new job, Connor Richmond arrests the chief’s daughter; what’s worse is he arrested her for prostitution. Jessica doesn’t really help the situation. After he ignored her initial attempt at an explanation, she not only let him make a fool of himself, she helped. Connor and Jessica are attracted to each other from the first, but what he thinks he wants and what Jessica thinks she wants don’t mix; she doesn’t date cops and he doesn’t want a long term relationship. With the help of her matchmaking father, Jessica and Connor end up working together. A string of burglaries has her father’s job on the line. Once again, Jessica and Connor’s desires don’t mesh. In order to keep her safe, Connor doesn’t want Jessica involved in the undercover operation, and Jessica will do whatever she has to in order to protect her father. Once they are trapped under the disguise of husband and wife, will they be able to keep their attraction under control?

Temperature’s Rising is a comical book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Karen Kelley always manages to blend humor with realistic characters to deliver an unforgettable story. The secondary characters add to the amusement as the antics of Jessica and her family are laugh out loud funny. Temperature’s Rising is fun to read as you are just waiting to see how long Jessica and Connor can keep their hands off each other. There’s sexual tension galore, but when these two finally come together, it’s well worth the wait. The sub plot is interesting but it’s truly the characters and humor that make this a great read. I always enjoy Karen Kelley’s books; I enthusiastically wait for what she thinks up next!
