Lord of the Var: The Rogue Prince is the fourth installment in the Lords of the Var series. This installment features Prince Reid, Var Commander of the Outlands.

Reid is a Prince who lives life to the fullest. Living as his father did, Reid can never have enough women and will never have only one for a lifetime. When the opportunity arrives that causes him to leave home on an Ambassador mission, he jumps at the chance. Visiting the planet of Nozando, Reid is tasked with presenting a gift at a Medical Conference. Unbeknownst to him, this one small gesture of appreciation will forever change him.

Jasmine is a beautiful woman with a secret. Married to a man that does not love her, she is left feeling miserable and as if she is slowly dying. Attending the Medical Conference with her husband, she catches the glimpse of a very powerful and strong Ambassador. Jasmine comes to realize that this is her opportunity to flee from her husband. When Reid denies her passage on his vessel, she does the only reasonable thing she can, become a stowaway. If she had realized the effect this one choice would have, she might not have been so quick to jump on board.

Reid and Jasmine find themselves in the midst of physical chemistry difficult for Reid to deny and Jasmine to accept. When the Federation comes for Jasmine, Reid offers protection, but it will cost Jasmine. Will Jasmine accept his proposal in exchange for safety? If Jasmine accepts his offer, will Reid regret asking her for such an intimate item? Can Reid come to see that his brothers are right and his father was wrong before it is too late? Will Jasmine have the chance to see that being with a man can be wonderful thing instead of what she believes it to be?

Michelle M. Pillow has created a wonderful story with a plot rich in characters, emotions, and the frustrations of dealing with both of them. Reid is left utterly confused when he is not wanted by a woman. He is always wanted by all women. This revelation leaves him intensely drawn to Jasmine. Jasmine desires nothing more than her freedom. When she finds that she is left in shambles whenever Reid is near, she is beside herself and at a loss for words. The characters are a wonderful compliment to each other. Reid is a strong warrior and Jasmine is emotionally weak. Neither of them realizes, they are more alike than they think. Reid and Jasmine’s display of emotions and passion is rewarding for readers to watch.

I enjoyed this story tremendously. This is the first story in the Lords of the Var series that I have read. I have to admit that I will be reading the three previous stories that I missed. The story that plays out between Reid and Jasmine shows that through bruises and confusion the perfect romance can emerge. Lords of the Var: The Rogue Prince is definitely worth spending hours curled in a comfy chair in front of a fireplace reading. Michelle M. Pillow offers readers an outstanding story of loyalty, duty, honor, and love. I can only imagine the pleasure that I am about to receive by reading the other stories in this series and hope that there is another one in the wings. Michelle M.
